'Makani' is the latest addition to the Amakhosi Clan. He reminded us of his grandfather 'Micky' when he was a young baby and does have a number of his characteristics.
His name is actually Hawaiian and means 'Wind' (unfortunately we couldn't find a name meaning 'Wind' in an African dialect which was suitable, as we chose 'Winds of Change' for his registered name). We hope that he will continue to help fly the Amakhosi banner in the showring in coming years.
I took a break from showing dogs for a while in 2008 and 2009, so Makani had only been to a few shows.
At the end of 2009, I started to go to a few shows again, and Makani rapidly collected points towards his Championship title.
Makani was entered in only 2 shows in February and March 2010, and achieved Best in Group at both shows (following on from BIG at his final show in Ocotober 2009).
He needed only 6 points to finish for his Championship title. He went into his second show for the year and completed his Championship title in fine form taking out Best in Group and topping it with BEST IN SHOW CHAMPIONSHIP ALL BREEDS!!!!
Thank you to the Judges: Mrs Gwen Hovey (General Specials) and Mr Chris Woodrow (Group 4), for recognising the quality of this fine Rhodesian Ridgeback. It was such a thrill to have our boy achieve this award and, for a change, I was actually handling him myself, which just added to this special moment. The conditions on the day were less then fantastic with the showgrounds receiving 43mm of rain overnight. Luckily Makani loves water and didn't mind the muddy wet conditions on the day!
Makani is continuing to achieve in the showring in 2011 being awarded Multiple Best In Group Awards.
Makani is maturing nicely into a very handsome dog. He has a gentle, though cheeky nature and loves a cuddle. He is also very adept at unravelling chainmesh and making his way into the chicken coop to eat the chicken feed ( not the chickens, he is not interested in them at all!) The problem is the other dogs are!!!
Please look in the photo gallery for further photos of Makani and the other dogs.
Makani's first litter to our girl, Kisima, can be viewed in our 'Puppy availability' page.
He also had 2 litters due in the latter part of 2010 to the following breeders:
Cheryl Currie Thompson of Caprivi Kennels.
Patrice Johansen of Jomeja Kennels.
We are very proud to have both of these kennels ask to use Makani.
Pups from all of these litters entered the show scene around Australia in early 2011.
Cheryl's boy 'Colt' (Caprivi Lock N Load) was awarded Best in Show at the 2011 RRCQ Inc Championship Show, under Judge Mr Jan Coppens (Netherlands) at 10 months of age! This follows on from numerous Class in Show awards!
His other sons have also received Multiple Class in Show, Class in Group awards from the Puppy Classes!
Makani's next litter is due in 2011 to Ketchwayo Kennels owned by Michele Izzard (email: email@example.com)
